TheLunar dynasty(IAST:Candravaṃśa) is a legendary principal house of theKshatriyasvarna, or warrior–ruling caste mentioned in the ancient Indian texts. This legendary dynasty was said to be descended from moon-related deities (SomaorLunar).[1]The Hindu deityKrishnais believed to have been born in theYaduvanshbranch of the Lunar dynasty.
According to theShatapatha Brahmana,Pururavaswas the son ofBudha(himself often described as the son of Soma) and the gender-switching deityIla(born as the daughter ofManu).[2]Pururavas's great-grandson wasYayati, who had five sons namedYadu,Turvasu,Druhyu,Anu, andPuru. These seem to be the names of five Vedic tribes as described in theVedas.[3]
According to theMahabharata, the dynasty's progenitorIlaruled from Prayag, and had a son Shashabindu who ruled in the country of Bahli.[4]The son of Ila andBudhawasPururavaswho became the first Chandravamsha emperor of the entirety of the earth. Ila's descendants were also known as the Ailas.[5]
In Hindu texts, theKurukshetra War, which forms the subject of the Indian epicMahabharata, was largely fought between rival branches of the Lunar dynasty, famously resulting inArjuna's turn away from war and the reprimand of his mentor Krishna. Krishna reminds Arjuna that Dharma stands above everything and the text forms an integral cultural cornerstone for all fourKshatriyahouses.
By the conclusion of the Kurukshetra War, most of the Yadhuvamsha lineage is in peril. The sinking ofDvarakasees the destruction of the entire Yadhuvamsha lineage with the exception ofVajrawho was saved byArjuna, and later becomes the King of Mathura.

쿠루크셰트라 전쟁이 끝날 무렵, 야두밤샤 혈통의 대부분은 위험에 처해 있다. 드바라카의 침몰은 아르주나에 의해 구원받은 바즈라를 제외한 야두밤샤 혈통 전체가 파괴되고 나중에 마투라의 왕이 되는 것을 본다.
